How a website project runs, step by step
From the first conversation to launch day and after. Most projects take 2–8 weeks, depending on the package. The services page has typical timelines for each.
-
First conversation
A short chat about your business, your customers and what’s prompting the project. If I’m not the right fit, I’ll say so.
-
Site and Google check
I look at your current website (if you have one) the way a customer would: on a phone, in a hurry. I also check how your business shows up on Google, including your Google Business Profile (your listing on Google search and Maps).
-
Written quote
You get a plain-language recommendation and a fixed written quote: what’s included, what it costs, how long it takes and what I’ll need from you. Costs from other companies are listed separately, like your domain (your web address, like yourshop.ca) or hosting (the service that keeps your site online).
-
Deposit to book your spot
A deposit books your project into the schedule. Nothing starts until the quote is agreed in writing.
-
Design and build
I plan, design and build the site, checking in with you as sections come together.
-
Review rounds
Your quote sets how many review rounds are included, and you’ll have real pages to react to. Extra requests are always possible. Each one is quoted before I start on it.
-
Testing
Before launch, I test the links, forms, speed and accessibility on common phone, tablet and desktop sizes. Accessibility means the site is usable by people with disabilities, tested to WCAG 2.1 AA, the standard behind Ontario’s AODA.
-
Launch
The site goes live on your domain. I check that every page works there, with page titles and descriptions ready for Google, then walk you through updating your own text, hours, menu and photos.
-
Website Care (optional)
If you’d like, I stay on after launch for updates, backups, security checks and small changes (see what’s included). If not, your site is easy to look after yourself.
What keeps projects on schedule
Timelines hold as long as photos, text, logins and sign-offs arrive as planned. I’ll tell you exactly what’s needed and when.
